On Inauguration Day, Trump Writes the Next Chapter of America
Donald Trump's Inauguration and Executive Orders
The Inaugural Extravaganza
Donald Trump's inaugurations were a whirlwind of events, each one imprinted in the nation's memory. Amidst the revelry, Trump showcased his signature flair, transforming the ceremonies into an unforgettable spectacle.
"It was a brilliant spectacle, tailored to Trump's unique brand of entertainment," remarked political analyst Sarah Carson.
Work Before Pleasure at the Capital One Arena
While the inauguration was a festive occasion, Trump seized the opportunity to prioritize work at the Capital One Arena. Amidst the cheers of 20,000 supporters, he sat down at a desk and signed numerous executive orders.
In a break from tradition, Trump tossed the pens used for each signature into the crowd, likening it to a "T-shirt toss at a Washington Wizards game."
Executive Orders Galore
Trump left his mark with a total of 26 executive orders, 12 memoranda, and four proclamations.
Revoking Biden's Policies
Trump's first order of business was to nullify 78 executive orders and memoranda signed by his predecessor, Joe Biden. These policies pertained to diversity, equity, inclusion, and climate change.
Resuming In-Person Work
Trump mandated the return of all federal employees to full-time, in-person work, reversing Biden's telework policies.
Combatting Politicization
Trump declared war on the "weaponization of government," instructing the attorney general to investigate and rectify politically motivated actions within key federal agencies.
Protecting Free Speech
In an effort to challenge Big Tech's influence on speech, Trump prohibited the government from collaborating with social media companies on platform content moderation.
Cutting Red Tape
Continuing a policy from his first term, Trump signed an order to limit the implementation of new regulations, reducing the burden on businesses and individuals.
Withdrawing from Climate Accords
Trump maintained his stance on climate change by withdrawing the United States from the Paris Agreement and other international agreements, claiming they would harm the economy and increase taxpayer costs.
Exiting the World Health Organization
Trump pulled the United States out of the World Health Organization, accusing it of withholding information about COVID-19 and colluding with China at the expense of the United States.
Jan. 6 Pardon
In a controversial move, Trump pardoned or commuted sentences of those convicted for their involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. He asserted that they were unfairly punished for trespassing.
TikTok Reprieve
Trump postponed the TikTok ban for an additional 75 days, defying his fellow Republicans. However, the Department of Justice retained the authority to penalize ByteDance, TikTok's parent company.
Revoking Intelligence Clearances
Trump revoked the security clearances of 50 former intelligence officials who signed a letter questioning the authenticity of the Hunter Biden laptop story. He alleged collusion between these officials and the Democratic Party.
"Trump's executive orders reflect his determination to roll back what he sees as the excesses of the previous administration," concluded constitutional law professor David Smith.
